Generate HTML from Markdown files (gitlab wiki export)

How to generate HTML pages from .markdown files as exported from Gitlab .wiki repo? Easily:

$ sudo pip install grip 
$ files=`ls *.markdown` 
$ for f in $files; do grip $f --export; done 

And now, find all those "a hrefs" and add .html after the links in order you can browse the files with your favourite browser (help yourself with some scripts) :)

Migrate contacts from Nokia (E72) to Nexus 4 (andr 4.2.1)

I have been looking on the web for the easiest way to migrate my precious phone contacts from Nokia to Nexus 4. I did not want to install any new software and I wanted to do that on Ubuntu. Here is 5 min recipe on how to do that:
 - Nokia E72: Export your contacts to memory card (micro SD)
 - insert micro SD memory card into computer, navigate to /sdcard/Other/Contacts (there you will see a lot of .vcf files), select all, copy
 - Connect Nexus 4 to computer, select second option on how to mount your Nexus (the same as you would do to read photos from the phone)
 - create directory Contacts (on the same directory level as directory Photos is), paste all .vfc files there
 - Nexus 4: Go to contacts -> Import Contacts -> import all
 - go fetch some coffee
 - you are finished.

Painlessly create a screencast in linux/ubuntu

How to create and edit video in Linux/Ubuntu

Tools you need:

• recordmydesktop
• ffmpeg
• openshot video editor

in this order. First, run RecordMyDesktop and 

• click "Save As" and select destination for your recording
• by clicking "Select window" pick a window you will record (or create a selection of your window)
• click "Record"
• do some magic moves while recording
• click "Stop" on your Panel (big red button)

Now, you will need to convert your .ogv file into .avi. This is just for the sake of OpenShot Video Editor. It handles .avi easier (I had some problems with editing .ogf files). Use ffmpeg:

$ ffmpeg -i recorded_movie.ogv -vcodec mpeg4 -sameq -acodec libmp3lame recorded_movie.avi

recorded_movie.ogv was the output of recordmydesktop. recorded_movie.avi is the output of the ffmpeg. Now, open OpenShot Editor and edit, cut, add text and transition between sections your recorded_movie.avi. For adding text I used Title -> New title. Pick your stile, input the name, the text. It pops out in your Project Files. Pick&drop it in your timeline. Easy. A screen-shot of my OpenShot Video editor:
